As the School District prepares for the re-opening of schools, it goes without saying there are questions about our families who have children with special needs. Your children are unique, special, and important. Preparing for their return to school this year is unlike any other experienced. It has been a feat of extraordinary means accented with moving pieces and unexpected changes to navigate through.
I appreciate our Superintendent, building Principals, Supervisors, and Summer Teams who have been working in developing plans not only the typical 'return to school' but refining plans noting safety in accordance with our state guidance.
I have met with our Kinnelon Parents of Exceptional Children (KPEC) to gain insight about concerns in the upcoming year and also suggestions to consider. District mental health professionals have researched and prepared resources and topics for our staff, students, and families to assist not only at the onset of the year but throughout the year as well.
Most district teachers, related service providers, and child study team case managers are 10-month employees and do not work over the summer months (all staff return on 9/1/2020), my office will work to address questions you may have. In the meantime, attached is a modest overview of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to assist with most inquiries for your child/ren in our return to school in the fall.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to prepare and work to meet the needs of your children to the greatest extent possible. Stay well and see you soon.
