World Civilizations

Course Description: The course will provide an in-depth look at Western civilizations between the time of the fall of the Roman Empire through the Dark Ages. 

 

Topics We Will Cover:

  • Unit I: Intro to World Civilization

  • Unit II: Germanic Kingdoms & The Byzantine Empire

  • Unit III: Growth and Spread of Islamic Civilization 

  • Unit IV: Cultures and Kingdoms of Medieval Africa

  • Unit V: Imperial China and Mongol Empire

  • Unit VI: Classic and Feudal Japan

  • Unit VII: Change and Turmoil in Western Europe 

Grading Policy

  • 40%- Assessments

  • 40 % - Classwork and Homework

  • 20 %-  Other graded assignments (DBQs, essays, projects, etc.)

 

Material Needed:

  • Something to write with a Pencil or Pen 

  • Headphones: I do allow you to listen to music while we work on projects/independent work but you must have them with you. I will not allow you to leave class to get them. BRING THEM EVERY DAY.

  • Chromebook and Charger

Class Expectations:

  • Do not talk while others are

  • Raise your hand if you have something to contribute to the class or have a question. Unless we are doing a no-hands discussion.

  • Be respectful: Not just in our classroom but outside as well.

  • Come prepared to learn  

    • Be on time and bring everything you need for the class every day.  

  • Keep an open mind and do not judge others’ opinions 

    • There will be discussion and debate in this course.  

    • You must think and criticize constructively.

  • Start the “Do Now” (if there is one that day) once you enter the classroom. 

  • Dismissal: Remember the Bell doesn't dismiss you, we do. Everyone will be dismissed when the class is seated and quiet.

  • Cell Phones are to be used for educational purposes only.

 

Google Classroom:

  • We will use Google Classroom for most things throughout the school year such as HW, Projects, Study Guide etc…

 

Absent:

  • If you are absent it is your responsibility to check Google Classroom or contact me to see what you missed that day.

 

Late Work:

  • All work that is late will lose 2 points per day that it is not handed in after the due date.

  • Late work will not be accepted after the completion of that unit.
