I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember!
This school year marks my 13th year in this amazing profession, and every September brings with it the hope and promise of another great year. The best people, my students, call me Mrs. Mac.
My teaching career began in 2007, in the Flemington-Raritan School District in Hunterdon County. I taught 5th grade for five years, specializing in Language Arts and Science, but when the opportunity to teach in the Gifted and Talented Program
became available, I jumped at the opportunity to work with this curious and creative group of students. Four years later, I was asked to become a Reading Recovery and Literacy Support Specialist. I underwent extensive training and became a certified Reading Recovery Teacher in May 2017. Helping struggling first graders learn to excel in reading and writing was so rewarding, but I realized that I truly missed having a classroom of my very own. So when I was offered a first grade position here at Bear Tavern, the decision was easy.
I was born in California, but I have lived in New Jersey most of my life. After graduating from Voorhees High School in Hunterdon County, I attended Gettysburg College where I studied English and Elementary Education. I currently live in Hopewell with my husband Jim and our daughter Emma (6) and son Jack (4). When I'm not busy being a mom and a teacher, I enjoy playing the piano, baking, practicing yoga, and reading. I'm a lover of language, and I read whenever I can. I'm always on the lookout for fun, inspiring, and clever quotes to get me and my students thinking.
During the summer, you can find me and my family on the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey - my favorite place to be!
