 Fall 2020 School Year

Welcome scholars and parents!  The new school year is upon us bringing with it both new challenges as well as exciting opportunities.  All around the country, the COVID-19 pandemic has created an environment of restraint and awarenss, and this is evident in education as well.  As we strive to maintain our scholars, families, and colleagues in as safe an environment as possible, we continue to tackle our educational goals regardless of the difficulties that remote teaching can present.

To that end, the Irvington Board of Education and the Science Department have adopted a middle school curriculum optimized for a remote learning environment.  Since the Spring of 2020 semester, the middle school has utilized the Amplify online science program

Amplify is an exciting online science platform that closely follows Irvington's 5-E model for science education.  Amplify ignites the students' inate curiosity of the natural world with phenomena-based units that seek to investigate question-driven scenarios with detailed readings, interactive simulations, models, and embedded formative assessments to guide student learning.

Having piloted the program last spring, I am excited to continue having this top-tier educational platform in the hands of our scholars.  Perhaps the best aspect of the Amplify platform is that it lends itself to both a remote and in-class learning environment.  As we eventually transition back into classroom instruction, the students will continue to utilize Amplify with hands-on investigations that supplement the online curriculum with ease.

As we continue to foster a solid remote learning environment for our scholars, the UAMS Science department remains committed to adhering to New Jersey's adoption of the   Next Generation Science Standards.  The standards create a solid foundation of Diciplinary Core Ideas, Cross-Cutting Concepts, and Science and Engineering Practices that provide a comprehensive integration of STEM for real-world connections and application.

I look forward to a successful 2020 -2021 academic school year.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have at .  Thank you.
