Welcome to 4th Grade Science!
This year we will begin focusing on the Next Generation Science Standards which has a large emphasis on exploratory learning through the STEAM process. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. We will learn to think like scientists and engineers and become familiar with both the Scientific Method and Engineering Practices. Clearly, you cannot spell STEAM without TEAM. Teamwork and the importance of working well with others will be emphasized throughout this process. Though we will be focusing on Science, I have found that an interdisciplinary approach is the best way to fully access all that Science has to offer. We will read nonfiction texts to explore scientific discoveries (old and new), design and implement experiments to work with scientific ideas hands-on, and communicate our findings through writing, drawing, and discussion!
During my time in Mrs. Iacovelli's Classroom, we will be focusing on how energy is transferred and the different forms of energy including:
- Mechanical Energy
- Electrical Energy
- Light Energy
- Thermal Energy
- Sound Energy
If time permits, we will move on to weathering and erosion before winter break and the return of Mrs. Iacovelli!
