Attendance and Tardies
It is important that your child be in class before the 7:55 bell each morning. What we do in class involves active participation and it is easy for students to fall behind due to excessive tardiness or absences. We realize that sickness, family emergencies, and doctor appointments do occur. Please send a note to school with your child and the reason he or she missed. Whenever possible, your child's schoolwork will be saved for him/her to complete upon return to school.
Homework and Planners
Homework is important for student success. Please ask to see your child's homework each night to ensure that it is quality work. Your child will have Math homework Monday through Thursday every week. Students will have grammar/reading assignments every week. Literacy menus will be due every Friday, so if students need to complete them they should take them home Thursday night to finish as homework. Students will be expected to copy their assignments into their planner at the beginning of each class. It is their responsibility to bring their planner home, complete their homework, and return to school with it the next day.
Our school plannner isa great tool for school/home communication. We use a planner code system to communicate how your child's day went. Planner codes can be found on the inside cover of your child's planner. Please sign the planner if there is a planner code. This ensures us that parent/guardian saw the planner mark.
Here are a few tips that may help homework time go more smoothly in your home:
1. Encourage your child by showing interest in what he/she is doing.
2. Provide a noise-free place for him/her to work.
3. Establish a regular homework time each day after school for your child to complete his/her assignments.
4. Encourage your child to ask for help when he/she doesn't understand something. Just like teachers, parents can't help if they dont know there is a need.
5. If necessary, take a break if the assignment becomes too frustrating.
