The roles and responsibilities of school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs):

According to The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA)'s Roles and Responsibilities of Speech-Language Pathologists in Schools (2010), school-based SLPs have assume a range of responsibilities including: 

  • collaborating with other professionals to meet students' needs
  • implementing appropriate services to students
  • ensuring educational relevance
  • highlighting the importance of language and literacy

ASHA's Roles & Responsibilities of School-based Speech Language Pathologists (2010), states that the practice of speech-language pathology includes "comprehension and expression in oral, written, graphic, and manual modalities; language processing; pre-literacy and language-based literacy skills, including phonological awareness."
