                                                          September, 2017

Dear Parents,

I am writing to let you know that I am your child's special education teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.

I hope that you had a fantastic summer and had time to enjoy yourselves.  I had a busy summer myself - I attended 3 weddings!

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in New Jersey. I graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in human communication.  Later, I earned teaching certifications in elementary and special education from Kean University. I received my master’s degree in education from the College of St. Elizabeth. I am married and have two adult children. This is my 19th year at Cedar Hill School in the Special Education Department and my 5th year working with the 5th grade team.

As your child's special education teacher, I will be working hard to help him/her make academic progress in a safe, structured and positive environment.  We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in Mrs. Flaherty's classroom this year. Last year was our first year working together and we both look forward to continuing our partnership!

A strong home - school connection is so important to me. This year, I will use "Remind," an application that allows me to text you updates, reminders, etc. and you to text back with any questions or concerns you may have. For more information, click this link . If you would like to participate, please let me know and I will provide you with the class code.  In addition, you can also email me @

I look forward to meeting you and your child at "Meet the Teacher" on Wednesday, September 6th in Mrs. Flaherty's classroom! I look forward to a year filled with growth and learning!

   Mrs. DeGregorio (Mrs. D)
