ProStart ANNOUNCEMENT
Students that are NOT JumpStart with ProStart as their pathway will no longer be required to earn 200 hours of Food Service per year.
Students will still be required to sign up and work 2 community events totalling 8-10 hours outside of class, each semester.
Examples: Food bank, Soup kitchen, Concession stands, Events we cater at school, etc.
Students are encouraged to work toward earning their Certificate of Achievement - but it is not a requirement UNLESS the student
is in JumpStart with ProStart pathway. The COA does open up possibilities of scholarships and college credits through many
colleges within the food service industry and hospitality careers.
JumpStart Students with ProStart Pathways are required to earn COA AND BECOME SERVSAFE CERTIFIED!!!
At the end of ServSafe - students must pass multiple practice tests for them to receive the actual
Certified test. This certification would be good for 5 years, which I tell students would get them through college. Many college students work
in the food industry to help make extra money. Having the ServSafe certification may help land them a job and/or get them a raise. It's part of class work
anyway - so try hard and achieve it! It is a college course in itself, and will require students to study throughout!
