Dear Family,

Welcome to a brand-new school year! I’m so excited to have you in my class this year. Whether you are in 10th or 11th grade, and whether English is your first language or one you are still learning. This class is a place for all of us to grow as readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators.

My name is Ms. J. Bharrat, and I’ll be your English Language Arts/English as a Second Language teacher. I believe in creating a safe, welcoming classroom where every voice matters, and where mistakes are part of the learning journey. We are going to work together, support each other, and build confidence every single day.

This year, we’ll explore a variety of literature, improve our writing skills, and sharpen our communication—both in academic and everyday settings. We’ll read stories that challenge us, write about topics that matter, and develop the language tools that will help you succeed in all areas of life.

Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect:

  • 📚 Novels, short stories, and articles from diverse voices
  • ✍️ Creative writing, personal narratives, essays, and research
  • 🗣️ Class discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects
  • 🛠️ Vocabulary building and grammar support tailored to your needs

Whether you are a book lover or someone who hasn’t quite found the right story yet, I’m here to help you discover your voice, your strengths, and your path forward.

Parents and guardians: I look forward to partnering with you to support your student’s success. Please feel free to reach out to me at Irvington High School with any questions or concerns.

Let’s make this year one to remember!

Warmly,
Jennifer Bharrat  ELA/ESL Teacher
