The art curriculum reflects a continuum of developing skills that are spiraled across the grade levels. Through an interdisciplinary approach to art education, students develop critical and creative thinking skills based on units that incorporate aesthetics, the studio process, art history and art criticism.
Through the visual arts experience, D.T.S. students will develop an inspired imagination, confidence in his or her abilities, a deeper understanding of the world and a lifelong appreciation for the visual arts.
MINDFULNESS Through the Visual Arts: Mindfulness is a practice that encourages a quality of being fully aware of the present moment while experiencing thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgement. In addition to lowering anxiety, developing mindful habits strengthens a student’s ability to be tuned in and present in their learning. Building time for quiet reflection into a lesson can not only develop a more receptive mind, but it can also stimulate creativity. I will be bringing art activities into the classroom that encourage mindfulness and can be used as stress-lowering tools.
I am looking forward to a great year of making art with your kids. Please contact me if you have any questions or if there is something you believe is important for me to know about your child.
Kindly,
Angie Mikula
