Introduction to Your School Counselor

Hello RVS Family!

My name is Mrs. Giordano and I am one of the School Counselors here at RVS along with Mr. Ruttenberg and Mrs. Frey.   I support the 5th grade students as well as some 4th graders.  I am excited to get to know all of the students better during the 2021-2022 school year and look forward to them getting to know me.  Before they do here is some information about me to help you get to know me better.

I was born and raised in Massachusetts twenty minutes northwest of Boston in a town called Arlington. I am a huge sports fan and as you can guess my favorite teams are the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, and the Boston Red Sox. I grew up involved in a variety of activities that included soccer, cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, softball, basketball, track & field, and skiing. Spending time outdoors is how I like to relax and I love going to the beach. I am an animal lover and grew up with dogs and currently have a labrador retriever mix named Maxwell. After graduating High School I attended Salve Regina University in Newport, RI where I played soccer while earning my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.  I later attended Lesley University in Cambridge, MA where I graduated with my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and School Counseling certification. In 2005 I moved from Massachusetts to the Delaware Water Gap, PA and then four years later I moved to Warren County New Jersey where I presently live with my husband, daughter and Maxwell.

Please feel free to complete a request to set up an appointment with me to just say hi, discuss your academics, extracurriculars or any concerns you may be having.  I want you to know that I am a resource for you regarding anything that will help you achieve success no matter what that looks like. The best time to see me is by appointment which can be made via the School Counseling Request Google Form or email.  Have a great year and I look forward to working with you!

Warmly,

Mrs. Giordano

Mission Statement

The counseling department, in partnership with the Clinton Township community of parents, students, and educators, is dedicated to promoting student growth by focusing on the whole child.  All counseling programs are designed to foster student achievement in the areas of academic, career, social and personal growth.

In addition, our programs support the development of the following values: respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness, and citizenship.  Our goal is to promote a commitment to life-long learning, personal and academic growth, cultural awareness, and becoming productive members of society.

 RVS Counseling Department

The primary goal of counseling at Round Valley School is to provide students with a safe, supportive environment in which to manage any ongoing issues or crisis that may otherwise impede their emotional and educational growth. The program is developmental in nature, incorporating techniques that are meaningful in working with children in general, and specifically with intermediate school students at each grade level as they transition toward greater independence, acceptance or personal responsibility, and the need for more complex decision-making capacities.

Some specific areas that we strive to address with individuals as well as groups of students include the following:

  • Managing good life choices.

  • Accepting and respecting others, regardless of similarity or difference from oneself.

  • Learning to view differences among people as positive or innocuous, not as something to be distrusted.

  • Agreeing to disagree; developing strategies for getting along and working with those who are not your natural allies.

  • Resolving conflicts for oneself or via the involvement of a mediator.

  • Managing challenges at home including sibling rivalry, parental relationships and loss of loved ones.
