Cultural Sharing Week
Cultural Sharing Week will be 3/5-3/9 (Tuesday classes will be 3/13 instead) in music class! (See schedule below)
The students are invited to bring in anything from their culture that is MUSIC RELATED to
share with the class. This can include a favorite song, if they take private lessons on an
instrument they may demonstrate this to the class, they may sing (solo or as a group) for
the class, share a video with music that they like, if they have a toy that plays
music/music box they can bring that, etc. There are no limitations as long as what they are
sharing is school appropriate (I must hear/see all favorite songs/music videos in advance
so please provide me with a COMPLETE LINK or CD).
They must return the information sheet ON OR BEFORE 2/26-3/2 (during their respective music class) in order to present.
I am looking forward to seeing what inspires our students musically!!!!
(This is strictly for class – NO outside audience please! Thank you!)
***PLEASE NOTE: Tuesday classes will present the following week on 3/13/18!!!
This year in 1st grade music, the students will learn about many musical elements that will help them develop critical thinking skills, practice team building and collaboration, and become independent thinkers.
The year will progress in the following order:
Form: The overall structure of a piece of music.
They will identify the form using various shapes such as circle and triangle.
Dynamics: The relative loudness of a piece of music. They will use dynamics to express themselves through the music we sing.
Culture:Music from different backgrounds. The students will be exposed to a variety of cultures and backgrounds using music. This helps the kids to connect on deeper levels and promotes understanding and acceptance.
Rhythm: A strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound. We will spend ample time in this unit as it encompasses finding the beat, keeping the beat, composing, and performing.
Singing, Pitch, Solfege: We will be developing our singing voices, aural training, and begin to use solfege syllables (describes the musical scale using one-vowel-sound syllables that sing easier than the traditional 8-note scale names).
Instrument Families: Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, and Percussion. We will learn where each instrument belongs and why it belongs there.
This seems like a lot, but our kids in EHT are dedicated, bright, and great learners! I have no doubt that this year will be a great success!
