FACS 1

 

Course Description:This is a whole year introductory course to Family and Consumer Sciences. In this course we will explore basic sewing skills, basic cooking skills, kitchen safety, family, child development, finances, hospitality and tourism. It’s a great introductory course to introduce students to FACS. 

 

 

FACS2

Course Description: This is a whole year advanced course. The first half of the year will focus on Adult Responsibilities which include: finances, relationships, health and safety, consumer skills, family, managing work and money resources, managing time and material resources and good communication skills. The course incorporates real life situations and important issues to help students make informed choices now and in the future.

In the second half of the year,students will study the physical, intellectual, social, emotional growth of a child from birth through early childhood. Topics include prenatal development, preparation for birth and the birth process, impacts of heredity, environment, family on the development of a child and meeting need of care. The course will consist of projects and hands on involvement. 

 

Materials Needed for FACS1 & FACS2:

  • 1 ½ to 2 inch binder with plenty of loose leaf paper for the year
  • composition notebook (no spirals)                   
  • markers/color pencils to use in class
  • pen or pencil to write with.
  • $20 Lab Fee (Must be paid in full to participate in any classroom labs!)

 

Classroom Supplies:

Please bring 1 of the following supplies:

  • roll of paper towels
  • box of tissue

 

Student fees will NOT be used to purchase these items. If they are not brought in, they will not be available for student use.

 

 

 

Grading Procedures/ Make Up Work:

Grades will comes from daily journal entries, class participation, class activities, projects and test.

If you are present the day it was assigned you are responsible for turning it in the day it is due.

All assignments are to be turned in the assignment drawers in the classroom.

NEVER PUT AN ASSIGNMENT TO BE GRADED ON TEACHERS DESK OR ANY OTHER SURFACES IN THE FRONT OF THE CLASSROOM!!!

***If you are absent, you have 5 days to make it up. If the work in not made up it is entered as a "0" in the grade book.

YOU are responsible for making up your work.***

No name on any assignment means no credit!

 

 

Expectations:

  • Be prepared- in class on time with materials
  • Be attentive- listen to the teacher, guests and students at all times.
  • Be appropriate- no vulgar or distasteful language, comments or gestures.
  • Be positive-support each other and do not put others down
  • Be where you are supposed to be- no sitting on table tops or counter tops. Do not leave the room unless you have permission.
  • ALL school polices will be upheld in this classroom!

There is absolutely NO FOOD or DRINK allowed in class and CELL PHONES are banned from the classroom. Lunch detention will be given for food or drink in the classroom 1st and 2nd offense. 3rd offense will result in a state form. Cell phones will be taken when they are seen and brought directly to the office and will be handled in the office.
