Welcome to Señor Rocha's Spanish Desk/Room 37!
I am happy to be here at Old Farmers Road School and I am looking forward to working with your child this school year 2024-2025. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question or would like to know more about the curriculum or expectations. My email address is [email protected] or call me at (908)876-3865 x 4137.
This is my eleventh year at Old Farmers Road School. I received my B.A. in Spanish from Kean University. Also, I hold a M.S. from the People’s Friendship University in Russia and am certified to teach the Russian language.
The goal of our Spanish classes is to have students develop a functional use of the Spanish language while simultaneously introducing them to the culture and history associated with it. Also, our classes provide the students with a sound foundation in Spanish which can be a prelude to advanced study in the future while at the same time being suitable for students who only have a general interest in the language.
I will meet with each class in grades K through 5 once a week for 25 minutes. During this beginning stage of language learning, we are focusing on verbal communication and comprehension in the target language - Spanish.
My class will be conducted in Spanish. Throughout the course of the year, each unit taught will be based on a piece of literature and will provide several opportunities for the children to explore the language and culture.
I will use motion, repetition, and music to help students make connections with the general education curriculum in many areas stressing literacy, numeracy, science and social studies. You can encourage your child to practice the new words or phrases by asking them to teach you what they have learned.
Please understand that your child is acquiring a new language in a natural way and they will need time to internalize the language similar to the way they learned their first language.
