Welcome parents and students of the Apex Predators! My name is Christopher Payne and I am proud to be this teams Louisiana Studies teacher. While this is my fifth year teaching and I’m really excited to try some new strategies and to try to foster in my student the same love of history that I have. I’m also hoping that at the very least, my students will come away from my class with a better understand of the history and culture of this great state, and that they will have developed good critical and abstract thinking skills.
While I am a firm believer of teaching to make students better and more informed people and not just simply “teaching to the test”, I do feel that it is important to point out that the Social Studies LEAP Test places a great amount of emphasis on the students being able to read and interpret multiple texts and write an essay in response to a related prompt. As a result, this class will have a large amount of writing assignments. I will, however, try to incorperate other more "active" tasks to sharpen my students' thinking skills and ability to express an informed opinion.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me using the information on this website. I will try to response quickly and with the answers you need. Please join me in helping your student (if you are a parent) or you (if you are an Apex Predator) become the best students at the best school in Rapides Parish. Thanks!
Christopher Payne
