Content Mastery Center (CMC) – Buckeye High School
The Content Mastery Center (CMC) is an integral part of the Special Education program at Buckeye High School, designed to provide targeted support that aligns with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
The CMC uses a service delivery model that prioritizes students receiving the majority of their instruction in the general education classroom while providing direct, specialized instruction and individualized support as needed. Our goal is to help students succeed across all enrolled courses by using effective strategies, modifications, and adaptations tailored to their needs.
Eligibility & Access:
The CMC is available to all students who qualify for special education services and are enrolled in regular education classes. Students coordinate with their classroom teachers to follow proper procedures for leaving class to access CMC services.
Program Objectives:
- Support students in achieving not only passing grades, but the highest level of academic success possible.
- Help students identify their strengths and weaknesses, and develop strategies to leverage strengths while compensating for challenges.
- Promote independence in study skills to prepare students for long-term success.
- Grading for Study Skills Students
- Students enrolled in Study Skills courses within the CMC are graded on active participation, cooperation, and engagement in provided activities and assignments.
Services & Resources:
- Text-to-speech software for improved decoding, fluency, comprehension, and self-correction.
- Wireless computer lab access.
- Highlighted textbooks when appropriate.
- Tests read aloud.
- Assistance with written assignments, worksheets, and packets.
- Study groups for exam preparation.
- Ongoing progress monitoring and placement review.
- Support in organization and time management.
- Vocabulary files, study guides, and modified materials.
- Supplementary materials as needed.
- Reinforcement of test-taking strategies and study skills.
- Interactive learning through a Promethean Board.
