Dear Parents and First Grade Friends,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I will be your child’s first grade teacher. In this classroom, your child will be exposed to a variety of innovative and creative experiences that will help him/her develop skills in all academic and social-emotional areas. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know your child and foster their love of learning.

Here are a few items to keep in mind as you prepare for the new school year:

•  Please bring a backpack to school on the 1st day and every day.

•  Please bring a lunch or be prepared to purchase lunch on the 1st day.

•  Class tool kits, with all necessary supplies, will be waiting for you on your tabletops. I will also be providing all folders, notebooks, and journals.

•  One small, nutritious morning snack will be enjoyed each day.  I recommend sending snacks in a separate bag than lunch so that it is easily recognized by your child when he/she is unpacking in the morning.

Parents- If your child is going home from the 1st day of school in a way that is unusual to his/her routine, please send a written note to school on the 1st day expressing this change of routine. (For instance, a child who will normally take the bus is being picked up instead.) Thank you! I look forward to a year of working with you as collaborative partners in your child’s education.

Students- I am very excited to welcome you into your new first grade classroom! I know that this is going to be an outstanding school year! You will be learning many new things and be making lots of new friends. We have a busy and fun year ahead of us. I can’t wait to meet you on the 1st day of school! Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation, and we will see you in September.

Sincerely yours,

Mrs. Sterchele
