Welcome to 2nd-grade ESL. Our class is a beautiful blend of many cultures and traditions and we hope to share our stories as we grow and expand our command of English. The class will learn English through the exploration of thematic units, phonics, and guided reading. We will also be working on our writing skills to compose well-written paragraphs. I invite my students' families to share personal stories and experiences from their culture to enrich our curriculum. Students will be taking home journals and expected to write a story each week. Please look for these journals and have your student read their stories out loud to help them practice their reading and writing skills. Have your child read every night at home and discuss their stories with them to check for comprehension. We look forward to a great year!!
In our 5th-grade ESL class we will work on expanding our vocabularies and improving our speaking and writing skills. Parents are encouraged to have their students visit educational websites and practice English as much as possible. We have a new website:www.readingplus.com Students have usernames and passwords and they can practice their English at home.
A great bilingual (English/Spanish) website for parents of English Language Learners is Colorincolorado. The site has many useful suggestions and resourses to help parents work with their children at home. The web address is: www.colorincolorado.org
