Seventh Grade Social Studies Civics

Dear Seventh grade Students and Parents,

Welcome to my Seventh Grade Civics class.  Prepare yourself for an incredible year of learning.  In my class it is my hope that you will be able to discover all about Civics, and how this subject will be significant in your life.  I hope that this class will be very exciting as we venture to gain a deeper understanding of the role you play into civics and how civic responsibility affects our country and the world as a whole.  Please put your learning boots on, roll up your sleeves and prepare yourself to run with me this year as we dig into Civics.

Please make sure you have loose leaf notebook paper, pen or pencil (please only blue ink or black ink) and your Three Oaks Middle School agenda book to class every day.  It would be great if you could also have the following.

-a two pocket folder with three prongs (2 for the year)

-a charged chromebook and ear buds.

-Notebook paper

-pencils and black or blue ink pen.  Please do not use other colored pens.

Although the school provides the materials and supplies for basic instructional activities, the optional supply list will allow your students to have an enhanced educational program.  We appreciate your commitment to the education of your child, and with donations we can provide a great program for the students at Three Oaks Middle School.

Grades will be totaled from the following.

Tests/Quizzes/projects 60%

Class work 20%

Homework 10%

Content Reading 10%

At the end of the year a final grade will be given from the four quarters together.  30% of the final grade will be EOC Civics exam given in May.

I will attempt to update grades once a week by Friday mornings.  Please look on Pinnacle for updates.

When you are absent, you are responsible for getting your own make up work.  When you are absent you have two days to complete work from the day you get back unless you have missed extended time.  If you know you are going to miss school please give me as much advanced notice as possible to get work prepared for you.

I have certain expectations for my students in order to ensure our learning journey will be rewarding.  I expect all students to be safe, respectful and responsible.

Here is a list of examples that ensure safety; respect and responsibility will be honored in this classroom.

Be positive

Be accepting

Think before you act

Keep your hands to yourself

Be encouraging

Listen to who is speaking

Respect the property of others

Use appropriate language

Bring pen, paper and supplies to class

Find out what you missed when absent

Turn in homework on time

Be to class on time

To reinforce my rules I will use the TOMS card that is already in place at Three Oaks Middle School in the handbook.  When rules are broken, I will give a verbal warning.  If behavior continues, the student will be asked to give me their agenda book to be filled out, and parents will be called and notified by myself or the student.

Along with my three main expectations, I also have classroom rules.

  1.  Raise hand to speak
  2. No gum, candy or soda or other food.  I will allow water
  3. Students must use a pass to leave the classroom and may not leave during direct instructional time.  Students may not leave my class more than 2 times a week.
  4. My desk is my own personal space, please respect it as such.
  5. Take good care of property in classroom.  The school reserves the right to charge a student for damages done in the classroom
  6. Please respect yourself, others and the School.
  7. Please be prompt, prepared, polite, POSITIVE, produce and participate
