Mrs. Christie's 5th Grade Corner
Dear 5th Graders,
DIRECTIONS FOR CEREAL BOX HISPANIC HERITAGE PROJECT
Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 – October 15
Projects are due Friday, October 13, 2017
Use paper, either white or colored, to cover the cereal box on all sides.
It might be helpful to complete the writing and drawing BEFORE gluing the paper onto the cereal box.
Front of the box: Use the front of the box to write the name of the person you choose to write about, along with a picture of that person. The information can be typed or hand written, if hand written, please do it neatly. Pictures can be drawn, or printed from the Internet, or cut from a magazine or book, however; whichever method you use, it has to be in color.
Back of the box: The back of the box should include a handwritten or typed summary about the person’s life. In the summary, you should include why you choose this person.
Right Side: In the“List of Ingredients”, list what their contributions to the world have been, for example include their music, if they are musicians, include list of books if they are writers, etc. Include pictures if possible – be creative!!!
Left Side: The left side should include when the person was born, if they are still alive or the date of their death, the country they are from and any other interesting fact.
The Fifth Grade Teachers
Dear Family Member:
Throughout the next few weeks, our math class will be learning about decimal multiplication. We will also be learning how to estimate decimal products.
You can expect to see homework that involves multiplication of decimals.
Activity to do with your child:
A trip to the grocery store or the gas station is a perfect opportunity to practice decimal operations. For example, "We bought 8.6 gallons of gasoline that cost $2.95 per gallon. What was the total cost?" Work together to write a multiplication sentence with decimals that represents the situation. Then estimate before multiplying to find the exact product.
Welcome to Mrs. Christie's fifth grade corner!
I am excited and looking forward to a happy and productive school year.
