Descubre Book III (Vista Higher Learning)

Students need a three-ring binder, several packages of notebook paper, pens/pencils, 3X5 index cards (at least 100-200 per month), and a Spanish dictionary AT HOME for this class with which to work.

Students are expected to maintain on a daily basis:

          *classroom oral and written practice

          *vocabulary cards and study

          *homework assignments

These learning aids cover material from both inside and outside the texts and include vocabulary over a broad range of topics.

There is much emphasis on Spanish vocabulary, grammar, geography, culture and literature in the Spanish III Honors course,  so be ready to work!

The first nine weeks will be spent reviewing previously studied material. The entire course covers  all regular/irregular verbs, all verb tenses, and the Indicative and Imperative moods.  Much vocabulary both in and outside the text should be mastered at this level.  Also included in the first nine weeks will be a study of the geography of the Americas in which students will be required to learn in Spanish all countries of the Western Hemisphere and their capitals, as well as locating them on a map test.

We will move forward from there through reading, writing, and translation exercises in the Spanish language. Cultural study of the Spanish-speaking world will be important to this course!

*My grading scale is in accordance with that stated in the NHS

Student Handbook:

                                     For Spanish III Honors:

                                                   A=93-100

                                                   B=85-92

                                                   C=75-84

                                                   D=67-74

                                                   F=0-66

*Points are accumulated in the categories of  Homework (HW), and Oral Tests (OT), Written Tests (WT), and Project-Related Tests (PT).  Students’ accumulated points create an average of the total points offered.  This average constitutes their grade in this course.

No extra credit will be offered, as much opportunity to improve test grade averages is already present in this course. All test grades carry the same weight unless otherwise indicated, accomplishing an ongoing "built-in credit." Because of our "new normal,"  I will drop the lowest TEST grade per nine weeks in these higher honors courses.

Any make-up tests should be accomplished within a week, unless other arrangements are made between teacher and student and should be

initiated by the student !

Homework should be made up within  two days after absence ends.

(EX.  Absence ends Monday>Make up by Wednesday;

         Absence ends Tuesday>Make up by Thursday, etc.)

My Discipline Policy is mapped out on my website for your convenience in understanding the necessary procedures in handling any problems of that nature.

How can you insure your own success in Spanish?

*Start each class prepared; be here on time w/supplies and ID!!

*Take advantage of class practice; always repeat after Señora!

*Understand that vocabulary is essential; flip through those cards daily!

*Don’t think that you can succeed without doing your homework!

*You control what success you achieve by your own attitude;

                           MAKE IT A GOOD ONE!

Parents, you may contact me for a conference or a clarification anytime at [email protected]. However, we do offer formal parent-teacher conference days in the fall and the spring.  You will be notified through Neville Notes of those dates and times. Papers are filed in the students’ folders, and parents may peruse their children’s folders on any scheduled conference day.

Please know that I have nothing but great expectations for your children while they learn a little “ESPAÑOL!

Looking forward to a great year in Spanish III Honors!

 ¡Muchísimas gracias!
