Unit 2 : The Thrill of Horror!
This unit focuses on author's purpose (Reading Standard 6 of the Language Arts Florida Standards). This quarter we will discuss how authors use style and suspence to create chilling tales and incorporate those elements into our writing. We will focus on correcting commonly confused spellings and creating complex sentences with appositive phrases.
October 17th: Students will be able to write a RARE paragraph and create text-based responses to prompts.

October 19th: Students will be able to analyze an author's intentions through an alalysis of a character's dialogue and actions. Students will be able to participate in collaborative and respectful discussions.

October 23rd: Students will analyze specific word choice to determine the author's method for creating suspense.

October 24th: Students will evaluate specific word choice and details to determine characterization.

October 26th: Students will examine the development of argumentative essays and articles. Students will be able to identify and discuss how the structure of an essay makes it more or less effective.
