Welcome to the 2019-20 School Year
I am excited to be working with your student this year at Garrett Middle in 7th grade Math. As our year begins, it is important for you to be aware of some exciting changes that are occuring in math. I am the 7th grade Math co-teacher and small group teacher for your student and I am excited to continue the academic and social growth of our children.
In an effort to emphasize student learning, growth and achievement, we will continue using Standards Based Grading. This system links each assignment and assessment to the individual standard being taught, and it also honors student growth towards reaching proficiency for that standard.
Conference week will be held at Garrett Middle School during the week of October 14 – 18, 2019. The link below will allow you to sign up for a 20-minute conference time with me.
Thanks and I look forward to meeting with you.
I expect our classroom to operate as a community of learners. We will learn and grow together. Expectations are high for you – both academically and in terms of your behavior. In order to achieve your goals, we must follow three principles:
Reason: Think before you act; be prepared to support your answers and opinions.
T- is it True
H - is it Helpful
I - is it Inspiring
N - is it Necessary
K - is it Kind
Respect: Treat everyone (teacher, peers, visitors, substitutes) the same way you want to be treated; show respect for other’s property, opinions, and background.
Responsibility: Take ownership of your actions; turn assignments in on time; have all necessary materials in class everyday (book, notebook and pencils); accept consequences when you don’t meet classroom expectations.
