Hello and welcome to the Music web page! My name is Mrs. Mary Ann Wyckoff and I teach General, Instrumental, and Choral Music at the Alloway Township School. You may contact me through e mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 935-1622, ext. 216.
Here is our Music overview.:
GENERAL MUSIC classes are taught once a week. In the younger grades, I teach musical concepts such as dynamics, tempo, melody direction, pitch, form, harmony, tone color and rhythm. Students are expected to participate in class activities, such as singing, playing instruments, answering questions, listening, etc. The 2nd graders do some xylophone playing and the 3rd graders learn to play the recorder. Students have the option to play a musical instrument beginning in 4th grade. 4th & 5th grade General Music students study composers, Music Theory and Music History. 6th-8th Grade students have Visual & Performing Arts classes 3 days a week for half of the year. They study how to play the keyboard.
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC- The Junior Band is made up of students in 4th & 5th grade, who are in their first or second year of playing their instrument. They also have a small group instrumental music lesson with those playing the same instrument, once a week (on the same day of the week) on a rotating time schedule. The Junior Band plays at the Winter and Spring Concerts. The Senior Band is made up of students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Senior Band members meet before school from 7:15-7:50 am every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the school year for rehearsals. Small group instrumental music lessons are also offered on the same day each week, on a rotating time schedule. The Senior Band members play at such functions as the Veteran’s Day Ceremony (sometimes), the Alloway Halloween Parade, the Baseball Opening Day Ceremony, the Winter and Spring Concerts, the Ice Cream Social (sometimes), the Quad District Concert at WHS, for pep rallies, and for Graduation.
CHORAL MUSIC – Students in grades 4 – 8 have the opportunity to be in Chorus Club. The Chorus meets after school on Wednesdays as per the Chorus Club schedule. Chorus members sing at the Winter and Spring Concerts. Students learn proper breathing and singing techniques, as well as identification of music symbols & part singing.
