It is hard to believe that we are beginning the 2017-2018 school year. Throughout the year, many efforts will be taken to prepare your child for success on standardized testing, in high school, and reflect upon prior learning.

You can expect your child to work using Collections textbooks and various non-fiction and fiction materials. The curriculum  provides enjoyable and relevant activities that allow students to develop the essential skills needed for success in college-level work as well as in the workplace. This curriculum incorporates appropriate rigor that challenges students by requiring them not only to apply concepts and skills, but also to explain the thinking behind the applications of knowledge. In addition, many efforts will be made to integrate writing and reading strategies to better prepare students for the standardized tests in writing and reading.

It is my expectation that children attend school consistently and turn work in on time. I do understand, however, that deadlines and days of school can be missed occasionally. In the case of an unexcused missed deadline, the student will receive zero credit for assignments turned in past the due date. If a student misses a day of school, it is his or her responsibility to check with the teacher of another student for missing assignments. students with an excused absence have one day plus the number of days they were absent to receive full credit for an assignment. Displayed below is how grades will be determined.
