October 2014 Newsletter
This October we will focus on learning to write our names, learning colors, shapes and some beginning letter sounds. We are starting with the letters L and F toward the end of the month. The children will start to have one letter writing homework paper for practice each week. They can complete this at home and return it to school to get a special sticker!
As we learn about each letter, you and your child can look for a picture of something that begins with the letter of the week. Bring it into school and we will put it on our Letter Wall Chart.
The themes for October are Fall and Community Helpers, starting with Firefighters. The Norma fire trucks are going to visit our school one day very soon! Of course, near the end of October it will be Halloween! We will enjoy reading Halloween books, singing Halloween songs and making Halloween art projects together!
Beginning this first Wednesday in October, we will be visiting the Library. We get to borrow a book each week to read and share with our families. Remember, books are meant to be taken care of lovingly.
There will be a PTO Room Parent Round Up Meeting on Tuesday, October 14th beginning at 6:30 pm at Olivet School. If you are interested in being a Room Parent or a Room Parent
Coordinator, to help with classroom parties and field trips, please try to attend.
We are going to have a Harvest Party in our classroom on Friday, October 31st for the children. On that day we will have a parade, play games, sing songs, eat delicious healthy snacks and have lots of fun! Please wear regular clothes and shoes to school for this day.
The children may bring their costume in a labeled bag. Please try to put your child’s name on the costume as well. We ask that parents and other adults do not dress up for our Parade. Thank you!
Norma School has a half day on Friday, October 3rd and will be Closed on October 13th in observance of Columbus Day. We also are Closed on October 24th for a District InService Day.
Let’s have a nice fall season!
