April 12, 2026
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are now in the 4th and final academic cycle of the 2025 - 2026 school year. It was a pleasure getting to know you and your child, and seeing the academic growth of my students.
At time, in Language Arts, your child is learning the long vowel teams in phonics, such as sounding out 1 or more vowels combined with one or more consonant letter that makes only the sound of the long vowel. For example, when there is ea, ee, and ie in some words, each pair of letters makes only the sound of long e. In addition, the students have been learning the characters, settings, events, and key details of stories, and continuing to learn various genres of literature and vocabulary that is in the stories that they read every week. In Mathematics, they are currently learning how to add and subtract numbers in the tens and ones place using different strategies. Afterward, they will also learn three-dimensional shapes in geometry and fractions. In the last unit of Science, they are learning the paterns of the Earth, such as information about the Earth, Sun, moon, stars, and weather patterns. And in Social Studies, they are presently learning about the marketplace. In addition, they will also be learning about some holidays, and careers.
Please be mindful of the change in the weather that impacts the temperatures inside and outside of the school premises. I recommend short sleeve shirts for boys and girls, a dress or long shorts for girls, and long shorts for boys on hot days. Please also adhere to the school's required uniform colors of navy and white color clothing. Please also provide a filled water bottle of water and a box of tissues for your child's personal use.
During this month, there will be an Earth Day project conducted, and on May 18, the first grade classes will be going on a class trip to Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills. This will be a nature walk that will give the first graders an opportunity to see plant and animal life that they have been learning about in Science. This is the most spectacular time of year to visit there. More information is forthcoming.
Sincerely,
Ms. Caivano
