Class Syllabus

Welcome to Cypress Lake Middle School! You are beginning an exciting endeavor, so I’ve provided some information below to help you on your way.

Assignments: Students are responsible for recording homework assignments in their planner at the beginning of each week. On the rare occasions that no homework is assigned, that should be recorded in the planners, as well. Parents/Guardians are asked to check planners at least once a week. Assignment information can also be found on my OnCourse website:

http://clms.oncoursesystems.com/websites/11774131

Homework: Homework will be assigned each class period and will be due the next class period.  All lessons contain tutorials on-line at:

 www.connected.mcgraw-hill.com

Make-up work for excused absences: Students are responsible for completing any work missed during an absence from class.  It is highly recommended that students read the lesson(s) missed and/or go the tutorial section on-line while absent in order to stay on track.  A student will be given as

many days to complete a homework assignment/quiz as the number of days that the student was absent, plus one. School board policy dictates this procedure.

Extra Credit: The ONLY extra credit given is test corrections and bonus questions on tests and quizzes.

Test Corrections Policy:

  • Corrections will be completed on a separate piece of paper stapled to the test.
  • Corrections need to include two columns:

1. The problem and the solution worked out step by step

2. A detailed explanation (in words) of the mistake made and how to solve

correctly.

Corrections will be due one week from the day the student receives his/her graded test.

Grading Policy: A student’s nine-week average will be based on:

  • Classwork/Homework - 20%
  • Quizzes/Projects - 30%
  • Tests – 50%

Required Materials: Students will need the following materials with them each class period: A section of a 3-ring loose-leaf binder, three sharpened pencils (one must be fixed lead), one sharpener with a compartment for shavings, erasers, an ink pen, composition book, and the consumable textbook. All assignments will be done in pencil!  The pen is for self- checking and the planner.
