Mrs. LaToya Howze
2nd Grade Teacher
I am truly excited that I have been given the opportunity to assist in educating your child/children. I am in my 11th year of teaching, and will be providing instruction in the areas of ELA, Math, and Social Living. My planning period is 12:35-1:45, daily, and I may be reached at the e-mail address provided above.
As a self-introduction, I have included a condensed version of my philosophy on education, in an effort to exhibit my love for teaching, as well as my dedication to students.
From a very early age, I have always had a desire to teach. In reflecting on my experiences, thus far, I envision myself becoming the best teacher I can be. I have a desire to go above and beyond the job description and give back to my community by educating our children and encouraging them to become successful and productive individuals.
It is my promise to expand my knowledge so that I can better assist my students, in their academic growth and achievemnt, to the best of my ability. I believe I am more than capable of promoting the motivation and effort, in students, needed to achieve; however, I will continue my education in hopes of increased effectiveness in my teaching career.
I believe education is a gift, and should be received in the best environment possible. As a teacher, I will ensure my students are learning in a safe, orderly, and well-managed classroom environment. My students will be well-informed of all classroom rules and procedures, as well as consequences resulting from noncompliance. My students will be rewarded for good deeds and praised for every effort.
I believe that every child should have a sense of determination and responsibility. I will encourage my students to set goals and see those goals through. I will urge them to monitor these goals and ask for assistance or advice if they suspect they may not be able to reach these goals. I will encourage student responsibility for their actions and praise them when they can differentiate between right and wrong.
I believe that children deserve the best education offered. I will adjust my instructional strategies to meet the needs of my students. Through careful observation, I will determine whether students or auditory or visual learners and will adjust instructional methods, accordingly.
I believe that students should get the most out of their lessons. I will use concrete examples, clear language, and real-world problems to enhance their understanding of subject matter. I will give prompt and useful feedback, at appropriate times, and will welcome questions or concerns from all students.
Finally, when the year has passed, and my students have been promoted, it is my hope that my students will reflect back on all the qualities I possess and have shown, and they will be able to say, "I'll remember Mrs. LaToya and all the things she's taught me, the kind words she has said to me, and the support and dedication she has shown in urging me to become a successful and productive individual!"
