CAMDEN HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS BATTALION JROTC PROGRAM
The United States Army's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, or JROTC, is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship; leadership; service to the community; personal responsibility; and a sense of accomplishment. In addition, it instills in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. Its focus is reflected in its mission statement, "to motivate young people to be better citizens." It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as citizens. The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school, attend a college of their choice, and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, the community, and the nation.
The JROTC program intends to teach cadets to:
• Appreciate the ethical values and principles that underlie good citizenship.
• Develop leadership potential, while living and working cooperatively with others.
• Be able to think logically and to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in
writing.
• Appreciate the importance of physical fitness in maintaining good health.
• Understand the importance of high school graduation for a successful future, and learn
about college and other advanced educations and employment opportunities.
• Develop mental management abilities.
• Become familiar with military history as it relates to America's culture, and understand the
history, purpose, and structure of the military services.
• Develop the skills necessary to work effectively as a member of a team.

JROTC Course Syllabus
Welcome to JROTC I.
This course is designed to teach values associated with responsible citizenship. You will learn and apply leadership and human relations skills, communication skills, and an appreciation for teamwork and self-discipline. Emphasis is placed upon integrity, responsibility, and respect for each other and authority.
PREREQUISITSES:
You should be a student in good standing in the Camden High School Panthers in the 9th through 12th grades and at least 14 years old. You must be physically qualified to participate in the schools physical education program, and your parents must sign a statement of health. In addition, you must be of good moral character and maintain acceptable standards of conduct.
TEXT and EQUIPMENT:
The US Army Cadet Command will provide your primary textbooks and a classroom performance system remote (CPS). Additionally, you will be provided a “Cadet Reference Book” which you will keep while you are in JROTC. Uniforms and basic equipment will be provided at no expense to you. Periodic cleaning of the Blue Army Service Uniforms is at the individual’s responsibility.
ATTENDANCE AND CONDUCT:
You should plan to attend all classes on time. The Camden High School Panthers attendance policy will be enforced. Additionally, the following rules shall be followed:
- Bring ALL required materials to each class each day. (See Rules for the Classroom for listing)
- Be in your assigned seat or information before the sound of the late bell rings.
- During the class, obtain permission before speaking or leaving your seat.
- Wear appropriate clothing. No baggy/saggy pants & no hats.
- Respect others and be polite. (The best way to be respected is to be RESPECTABLE)
- Respect the property of others. (If it does not belong to you or has not been issued to you, get permission before you touch it)
- Maintain a learning attitude! (Participate, ask questions & challenge yourself)
- It is YOUR education; get the most from it you can.
GRADING:
You will have quizzes and exams throughout the subject module. Quizzes and exams will be a combination of written, multiple choice, fill in the blank, essay, open-response and performance oriented questions. Each week you will receive a Class “A” or “B” uniform grade (Participation Grade). Additionally, you will be tested at the end of each Unit, Chapter material that was covered in class or Trip.
LEADERSHIP / PROMOTION:
You will be periodically considered for promotion and leadership positions. Determination of your potential and success as a leader will be a subjective evaluation of Senior Army Instructor, Army Instructor, Cadet Company Leaders. Also based upon your attitude, conduct, and performance while in your other classes. You will have the opportunity to volunteer to participate in evening and weekend activities. Participating in extra activities is voluntary; however, your ability to participate is based upon your conduct and attitude. These activities will be service learning and leadership development oriented.

Below is a typical JROTC Class Week
**** Pledge of Allegiance, Cadet Creed, JROTC Announcement, Do Now, and Lesson Objective
Monday: We do a lesson out of the LET 1-4 textbook. There are key terms and other information that you must journal. There will an essential question at the conclusion of the lesson that you must answer. The essential question is due before the Unit, Chapter Test is given using the classroom performance system. This Homework and Test is worth 10% of their overall grade
Tuesday: After School Drill Competition Practice September thru October, 15%
Wednesday: In ranks Uniform Inspection and after school drill practice, 70% of overall grade
Thursday: After School Drill Practice is 5% of overall grade
Friday: PT (physical training), participation Leader Application Evaluations (LAB) ---- Selected Leadership
Saturday: Drill Team Practice (preparing cadets for all upcoming drill competition events)
