2020-2021 was quite a time... COVID, quarantine - the whole world shut down for months and we were on virtual schooling. Classrooms were empty and we were teaching and learning from home. That didn't stop us from singing together! We made a virtual chorus with videos being sent to me and I pieced it all together. Our virtual choir has recorded "Fireflies" by Owl City.

Why is music important?
Music is physical education.
It requires coordination of fingers, hands, arms, lips, facial muscles, breath, torso, spine, shoulders, legs and is, therefore, a full-body experience. In addition, it develops extraordinary control of the diaphragm, back, stomach and chest muscles. The brain responds instantly to the sound the ears hear and the mind interprets. Music activates all parts of the brain which in turn creates a response in the body.
Music is reading.
Music provides practice in reading and tracking horizontally and vertically, though use of scores and lyric scheets. It is verbally engaging, using words for singing, learning rhythm and discussing aesthetics. It is visual and verbal.
Music is all of these things, but most of all, Music is Art.
It allows a human being to take all of these technical concepts and techniques and use them to create powerful emotion visually, auditorally and physically. Music is an expression of our perception and meaning of life: purpose, feeling, choice, struggle and triumph!
