Ceramics 2

 

Fall 2024

 

Course description:

You will create functional as well as sculptural artwork out of clay through the hand building techniques you learned in level 1 as well as continue to develop wheel throwing skills. 

 

The history of ceramics and the work of ceramic artists will be explored as different techniques are introduced. Advanced surface pattern techniques for finishing work will be covered.

 

 

Art 1 

Spring 2025

 

Course description: 

This introductory art course is designed to instruct students in the principles and elements of art and design. Students will become familiar with the principles and elements of art and design while completing projects using different media and processes including drawing, painting and printmaking.  In addition to art production, students will be introduced to art history, criticism and aesthetics.

 

 

 

Ceramics 

Fall 2024 + Spring 2025

 

Course description: 

This introductory ceramics course is designed to instruct students who have an interest in working with clay.  We will explore a variety of techniques and processes encompassing hand building and surface treatment. Students will gain a proficiency at creating functional as well as sculptural pieces of 3-dimensional clay art work.  We will explore the application of the elements of art (form, space, line, shape, texture, and color) to basic hand building techniques including pinch, coil and slab methods. The history of ceramics will be explored as different techniques are introduced.  Students will be introduced to the craft of wheel thrown pottery on a limited basis.  Various surface treatment and glaze techniques for finishing work will be covered.
