Ms. Oliviero - Media Specialist
Berkley Street Media Center
The Media Center is intended to be the hub of learning. It is where students will gain information through research and multimedia tools. It is also where children will gain a love of literature and reading. Students visit the media center on a weekly basis for media instruction. Students also have the opportunity to visit the media center with their classroom teachers during open labs in which the media specialist and the classroom teacher work collaboratively.
Students in grades K-5 will visit the Media Center on a weekly basis. The Media Specialist will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to create multimedia projects. Technology will be integrated across the curriculum. Students will be introduced to many programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Type II Learn, KidPix, Kidspiration and Inspiration. Students will also have the opportunity to navigate the Internet to locate information and conduct research on specific topics.
Students in grades 2-5 will also be introduced to Destiny our online catalog system in the library. Students will be able to use this database to find print material in the library. Students will be able to do an author, subject, keyword, and title search to find a book in the library. The media specialist will introduce how to read a call number and independently find a book in the library. Students will borrow library books every other week. Please remember to return your books on time! Damaged or lost books will need to either be replaced or paid for.
