Learning to play a musical instrument is one of the most enriching of all school experiences.  Some of the benefits of participating in the music program include: improved fine motor coordination, a sense of accomplishment, self-esteem, responsibility, dedication, new friendships, and a lifelong enjoyment, understanding, and appreciation of music.

Thirty minute lessons are given once a week on a rotating basis so your child will miss very little school work.  Any assignments that are missed must be made up by the student.

Home practicing should be done a minimum of four days a week for twenty to thirty minutes each day at approximately the same time to establish a consistent routine.

Well organized, quality practice time at home is the key to success!

The Orchestra will consist of fourth through sixth grade string students and the Band will be made up of fourth through sixth grade students who play woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments.  All ensembles rehearse once a week for fifty minutes, before school, beginning at 8:00am and will perform both in the Winter and Spring concerts. Beginning brass, woodwind, and percussion will join large ensemble rehearsals in January and will only perform in the Spring concert.

Children in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade can choose from violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, baritone horn, trombone, or percussion/bell kit.

Please complete the enrollment form and return it to school and as always, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Renting an Instrument

www.musicarts.com/rentals

Rental instruments are available from our school vendor Music & Arts.  You can visit www.musicarts.com/rentals, complete all required information and, for your convenience, select to have the instrument delivered to school.  This way I can get the instrument into your child’s hands as soon as possible.

Additional Purchases

Please remember to order the Essential Elements Method Book 1 for your child's instrument of choice.

Please order a music stand if you do not already own one.  This will help your child maintain good posture when practicing at home.  Good posture is always the basis for good technique.  This music stand will stay home.  I have plenty of music stands at school for all rehearsals and lessons.

Clarinet and Saxophone: Please order a box of #2 reeds.  These instrument require reeds to make a sound.  The instrument will come with one or two but they are easily broken and the student’s will require more.  This is very normal for woodwind players.

The instrumental care kits are not required.

LDW

In renting an instrument there is an option of LDW.  This is the Liability Damage Waiver.  It does come at an extra cost but it insures that if any damage comes to the instrument, it will be fixed at no cost to the renter.

Young students drop their instruments all the time!!!!

I can not recommend this insurance enough!
