Academic Integrity Vision & Policy

 

 

 

Academic Integrity Vision Statement:

 

The goal of the Ridge High School and William Annin Social Studies Department is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective citizenship.  Intellectual and academic dishonesty, including plagiarism and cheating, depress student achievement and detract from a positive learning environment.  Placing a high priority on academic integrity will ensure that William Annin Middle School students achieve personal success in their learning and ultimately develop into responsible citizens in society.

 

 

 

Goals of Academic Integrity Vision Statement and Policy:

 

     *Maintain a positive learning environment.

 

     *Teachers and staff will help students understand the importance of academic integrity.

 

     *Students will be able to identify what is and is not cheating.

 

     *Reduce incidents of deliberate and inadvertent cheating.

 

     *Create a framework within which teachers can consistently promote academic integrity.

 

 

 

Tiered Policy

 

  • Level 1
    • Minor offenses
    • Examples:Copying a homework assignment, improper citations, insufficient paraphrasing, impermissible collaboration
      • Low stakes/unintentional offenses

 

CONSEQUENCE: Teacher determined consequence (i.e. zero on assignment, redo assignment for learning purposes), inform administration for documentation purposes only.

 

 

 

  • Level 2
    • Deliberate offenses & multiple minor offenses
    • Examples: Copying on test/high stakes assignment, facilitating cheating, using prohibited materials during tests/exams, deliberate plagiarism, multiple level 1 offenses

 

    • CONSEQUENCE:Zero on assignment, Parent notification, Referral to grade-level administrator who will invoke consequences according to first offense in student handbook
    • No College Recommendations (for Ridge High School students)
    • Will be included on Teacher Evaluation for National Honor Society
    • *Notify supervisor

 

 

 

  • Level 3
    • Deliberate, malicious and willful offense & multiple deliberate offenses
    • Examples:Stealing/disseminating assessments (hard copy or photo via usage of technology) & multiple offenses on high stakes assignments
    • CONSEQUENCE:Zero on assignment, Parent notification, Referral to grade-level administrator who will invoke consequences according to second offense in student handbook
    • No College Recommendations from Social Studies Department (for Ridge High School students)
    • Will be included on Teacher Evaluation for National Honor Society

 

*Notify supervisor
