Wecome to Classroom  Ms. Best’s Grade 2

WELCOME!!!!!

I am Ms. Best and I will be your child’s 2nd grade teacher.  This is my 23rd year teaching for Lee County!  I attended college at University of South Florida where I double majored in Education and English.  I went on to obtain my Master’s degree in 2007 with an emphasis in Educational Leadership.  In addition to these accomplishments, I received my National Board Certification.  The attainment of this certification is the highest award given to a teaching professional.  In 2011, I was recognized by Lee County Golden Apple Recognition Program as being the top 70 teachers in Lee County.  In 2012 I was a Golden Apple Finalist!

I have 2 beautiful children, Julia(16) and Brady(14).  They both attended Heights IB World School as well.

I am so excited for an awesome year and I look forward to getting to know all of my students in the coming weeks.

I feel privileged and eager to work with your child.  Heights is such an awesome school and I am excited about the upcoming school year.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me for any questions you may have.  The BEST way to contact is via email. I can usually respond within the hour.  Often times I will not get phone messages until dismissal.

Communication

I create an environment where parents and students are my partners in the educational process.  I send home newsletters monthly and use planners daily.  Please make sure you read and sign at the bottom of the planner.  This helps me know that family members are aware of what we are doing in our class.  Please keep all newsletters in the folder provided.  Your participation is appreciated.

Homework

I assign homework nightly.  Students will get math, Accelerated Reading and usually one other form of homework.  It is imperative your child reads his/her AR book/chapters nightly.  I place a big emphasis on this in my class.

Projects

Students in my class will have a monthly project assigned to them.  These are individual projects that correlate with our unit of study/literature units.  I send home the criteria with the grading rubric at the beginning of each month and the projects are generally due by the end of the month.  The first project will be assigned soon!
