Welcome!! Mathematical instruction is a 75 minute block in your schedule. During this time period we provide instruction, assessment, and participate in activities to generate success within the daily math lessons.
Materials: The following items are suggestions that will help you for math.
-
Pencil and eraser: A regular pencil or a mechanical pencil may be used. Pen is not to be used in math work and any assignment handed in that is done in pen will not be accepted.
-
Calculator: Calculators are provided for classroom use but are not to be taken home by the students. Having a calculator at home enables the student to be able to check homework but is merely a suggestion, not a requirement.
Classroom Procedure: in addition to the school-wide rules, each student is expected to:
-
Arrive to class on time, with proper materials and be in their seat and ready to work when the teacher begins class
-
Be considerate and respectful at ALL TIMES and to ALL PEOPLE
-
Listen and follow directions the first time they are given
-
Raise their hand to ask a question or make a comment
In the event that a student makes the choice not to follow the classroom procedures, issues will be dealt with
-
A verbal warning
-
The student having their seat changed
-
Contact (via phone or email) will be made with the parent/guardian
-
Further incidents will warrant a disciplinary action form to be submitted to the vice principal’s office.
Any misconduct of a more extreme nature such as fighting or bullying will immediately result in a disciplinary action form being submitted to the vice principal’s office.
As a reward for positive behavior and persistence within the classroom, I offer Math Bucks to the students. These can be traded as credit for homework assignments ($5) or as additional points on quizzes or tests (up to $5).
Textbooks: We keep a class set of textbooks in our classroom, but they are accessible online at www.bigideasmath.com. Click on “Student”. If you are absent it is your responsibility to get the notes, classwork, and homework assignment that you missed. Make-up work needs to be turned is within the allotted amount of time, depending upon the length of the absence (1 day per excused absent day)
We look forward to having a fun, safe, positive learning experience in math this year. The classroom involves teachers, students, and parents. Working together as a team will enhance our year and make it as successful as possible.
