Letter of Introduction

September 2019

Dear Parents and Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Erica Cranden, and I will be your child's 8th grade English teacher at William Annin Middle School this year.  I graduated from The College of New Jersey in 2008 with a Bachelors of Science in elementary education and a Bachelors of Art in English, and am currently pursuing my Masters of Fine Arts in writing for children and young adults at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.  I have taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

It is a privilege for me to teach in such a high-achieving district as Bernards Township.  As a teacher, I know I work best in a classroom that is full of creative energy and comfort, and is an outlet to express opinions and ask questions.  I hope my students will appreciate that, too.  Rest assured, I work with the entire 8th grade teaching community to maintain grading policies and high expectations.  The students and I will also be working together to improve our writing, expand our vocabularies, and further our knowledge and empathy through reading.

In my spare time, I have interned for a literary agency in New York, and am a writer of young adult fiction in addition to being an active member of The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.  I value the importance of reading and writing both within and outside the classroom.

If at any time you would like to speak with me concerning your child, I am always available for questions, concerns, or comments.  Please feel free to contact me.  While I am available by phone, email is my most reliable method of contact.  I am very excited to be working with your children, and I know we will have a productive and positive school year!
