The third grade will work on a Ball Skill/Volleyball Unit. Volleyball is an exciting activity that can be enjoyed by all ages and all athletic abilities. It was created in 1895 as a game to be enjoyed by people who did not like basketball. The first "volleyball" was made out of the bladder of a basketball. It was easier on the hands. Thematic units are integrated in throughout the year as well. Native American games, games integrating rocks and New Jersey activities are all part of the thematic units. Third graders also have a chance to experience parts of the Presidential Physical Fitness Test. It is exciting for the students to experience some of the challenges from the test: The Shuttle Run, The Sit-up Test, The Sit and Reach, and the Pull-up Test. Each test measures a different component of physical fitness.
