Mission Statement

 

 

The mission of the Dr. Joyanne D. Miller School Library Media Center is to instruct students and staff to be effective users of information and to encourage and prepare students to be life-long learners.  The library media center exists to implement, enrich, and support the educational program of the school. This mission is accomplished by:

 

• providing instruction in information literacy

 

• providing intellectual and physical access to informational materials in a variety of formats and media

 

• stimulating interest in reading and in finding and using information and ideas

 

• promoting the use of the media center by students and faculty

 

• working with teachers to develop educational strategies to meet the information needs of students and to augment teaching

 

• supporting the school’s curriculum and reading initiatives

 

• providing a safe and friendly environment to promote reading and research

 

• implementing the standards for the 21 Century Learner which includes equitable access and information literacy through new technology and digital media

 

The library media center’s mission correlates with our district’s mission statement, which is to "Embrace - Engage - Educate." Our mission in the Egg Harbor Township School District is to embrace families and their students to provide a safe, rigorous, and relevant learning experience while students are engaged and educated to become responsible for their own learning.
