UPDATED ON 8/28/25
Below in the copy of the basics/highlights from the course syllabus that you will receive in class on the first day of school. Mainly remember that we are all in class to learn and that we all respect each other - you will give respect and you will get respect.
RULES/BEHAVIOR:
- Come to class on time and be prepared every day. (Review lateness procedures in your student handbook)
- If you come to the classroom and the door is closed, you must have a pass to enter the room. You must have a pass from your previous teacher. If you do not have a pass from a teacher, you must report to the 900 building to get a late pass.
- Be in your seat when the bell rings ready to learn. (A Focus , or warm-up, will be posted for you to work on once you walk into the classroom).
- Respect what other students have to say. Every person is entitled to his/her own opinion/questions.
- Make sure your cell phones are put away before you enter the room. Use of any non-instructional devices during instructional time is not permitted in the classroom. NO EXCEPTIONS! (Consult your handbook for specifics)
- Remain in your seat until the bell rings. I will dismiss you, not the bell.
- Bathroom privileges will be handled in a class-by-class basis. Please make every attempt to go to the bathroom during pass time, lunch, study hall, or gym where possible.
- Most importantly, work hard, be an active learner, ask questions, do your best, and have fun!
GOOGLE CLASSROOM:
We will be utilizing Google classroom immensely this year. Please make sure you have the correct classroom using your school account and your parents are invited as guardians.
ATTENDANCE/ABSENCES:
1) It is very important you attend class every day. Refer to your student handbook regarding the school-wide attendance policy.
2) DO NOT CUT!!! The penalties are not worth it and you will receive no credit for the work you missed that day. Refer to student handbook for the penalties.
3) Do not be late to class. Refer to student handbook for the penalties/procedure if late to class. (4 lates = 1 Absence)
GRADING/ASSESSMENT:
Tests/Quizzes: 85%
Classwork/Homework: 15%
While it is not mandatory to try to answer every question posed to the class, it is expected that you are attentive and engaged at all times. The bulk of your grade will be determined by you performance and participation in the classroom (through the BigIdeas on-line platform). The majority of your work will be completed as classwork. Any work not completed in class will become homework in addition to any previously scheduled tasks. Due to the interactivity of BigIdeas/DeltaMath (attempts/correctness checks/on-line-tutor/ect), your abuility to work with classmates and with teach aid, homework will be checked and graded! Late work will be penalized based on the amount of time it is overdue. However, late work will not recieve less than a 50% once compelted. This is so all stakeholders (you/parents/guardians/counselors/ect) will be aware of performance and understanding in advance to any quiz or test.
MATERIALS:
For class you will need all typical materials. You SHOULD have the following:
- CHARGED Laptop and charger
- 3-Ring Binder – We will be using packets throughout the year which I will hole punch for you. It will be much easier to keep track of and organize all the paper you will complete and help your grade!
- Pencils and erasers (Math is NOT done in pen!)
- Calculators recommended to purchase, but not required, are the TI-84 Plus CE or other similar TI-84/83 models (We have a class set for those who do not bring their own but it is best to learn on your own as not all calculators are the same!!)
- Colored pencils
- Scrap paper
PROCEDURES:
- When you enter class, there will be a FOCUS on the board which you will complete in your notebook/binder or via PearDeck.
- The class will be roughly half teach/learn, and half practice/apply.
- There may be times where you are asked to watch a lesson video before class but videos will mainly serve as refresher or makeup work if you are absent.
- Everything you do will have your name, date, and period on it!
- Assignemnts and materials will be posted on GoogleClassroom and due the following day unless otherwise specified.
- Late work must be turned in before the Chapter Test/Assessment coving the assignment's section(s).
- If a digital assignment is submitted late, all you need to do is comment "done" as a private comment under the posting in the GoogleClassroom.
- If absent, work will be due the day you return to school. If you are absent the day of a test, you will receive a zero until it is taken. It is your responsibility to schedule your make-up with me. Make-ups must be scheduled within a week of your return to school. If you choose to take it during a class period, you are still responsible for all materials covered that day. You may come after school as well (late buses run Tuesday-Thursday).
- If you are absent please do your best to keep up with assignments as everything will be available through the GoogleClassroom. You can use your peers as resources as well to find out what work was missed.
