We would like to remind all parents how important it is for your child to read every night. Please set aside a 15 minute time period for reading. Also, it is important that your child bring their library books back to school everyday. Even if they have not finished the book. There is silent reading time during the day and if your child does not have their book, they will have nothing to read.
My contact information is located on the top of the classroom handbook. Please keep this in a safe place at home so that you can refer to it if you have questions about school or classroom procedures. You can always email me: [email protected]
There are many different aspects of first grade that I want you and your child to understand. Learning to be responsible and organized are two very important life skills. The Homework Planner is a key to developing these skills in first grade. It is our tool for daily communication with each other. Your child will fill in the daily boxes with homework and other information each Friday for the next week. Make sure you sign or initial in that area on the right-hand side of the box each night and remove anything from the pocket and/or homework folder. I will mark in the daily box what behavior your child had that day.
HOMEWORK: begins the first week. They will have a math page. After the first week, homework should take no longer than 20-30 minutes each evening. If you are having difficulty with this, please contact me and I will try to help you with a plan.

Remember to return all library books every morning whether you have finished reading them or not. Students are able to test books in the morning after thier morning work is completed. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they have read and know the book before testing. :)
A Parent Communication Envelope will come home each Monday. Please empty the envelope of all your child’s work, announcements from the office and Progress Report. Please sign the progress report and return it the next day. You may keep the papers at home. I will keep the signed report and you will get them back at the end of the year. Reviewing papers with your child is a very important way to enhance your child’s education.
