Welcome to the Art Page!  My name is Mrs. Severson, and I'm happy to say this is my fourteenth year as the art teacher at Gateway.  All students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade have art for 50 minutes once every six days.  We focus on drawing realistically,

using art tools in a responsible manner, painting techniques, clay sculpting, experimenting with different mediums such as colored pencils and oil pastels, creating with a purpose, and art history.

All students need to bring in an art shirt to protect their clothes from paint and other substances.  This can be an old, easy to slip on t-shirt or button front shirt.  Please write your child's name on it with permanent marker.

I regularly display our student's art work in the office and around the school.  I also collect student's work for the annual LAEA show at the Alliance for the Arts in April. I will be sending home invitations to students whose artwork will be displayed in the show. The Designs and Dreams display at the Public Education Center will be hung in June with the opening reception in the fall.  In addition, there are community events in which we participate that showcase our students' talent.  I will contact students and parents if their child's work is chosen for that particular event.

Children love to create at home, too!  Put together your own art box with paper, crayons, markers, colored pencils, watercolor paint and brushes, scissors, glue, chenille stems, play-doh, buttons, stickers, feathers, yarn, etc.  They will love knowing they have their own special box of supplies to let their imagination run wild!

Donations are always appreciated.  If you have any unused arts and crafts supplies that are not being used, I would be happy to take them!
