COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPT AWARD WINNERS 

Fall 2020- Spring 2021 

Julie Chen ('21) - Awarded the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship - $40,000 ($10,000 per year) and a guaranteed paid internship at Amazon upon completion of herfreshman year. She was choosen for "her accomplishments, hard work, and bright future in the field of computer science."

Summer 2020

Julie Chen ('21) & Karen Nguyen ('21) - partnered with Kean University and were funded by the National Center for Women and Information Technology ($2000 grant) to host their own week long coding program. Their workshop, Aspiring Programmers, provided 20 young students (grades 2nd-7th throughout the state) the opportunity to learn about computer science. This was a remote workshop that was hosted using Zoom, Discord, and code.org. Participants learned how to code simple apps and games. Overall, the program was an introductory course that was intended to inspire children to take an interest in programming.

 

Vicky Zheng ('20) - was accepted to and participated in Google's Computer Science Institute.

 

Spring 2020

Julie Chen ('21), Kaysey Nguyen ('20), Samantha Phung ('21), Vicky Zheng ('20) - represented EHTHS in the final round of the Girls Go CyberStart Security National Competition. 

 

Raza Abbas ('20), Sakhi Shah ('20), and Vicky Zheng ('20) - Awarded the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship - $40,000 ($10,000 per year) and a guaranteed paid internship at Amazon upon completion of their freshman year. They were choosen for "his/her accomplishments, hard work, and bright future in the field of computer science."

 

 Winter 2020

Julie Chen ('21), Ruby Lieu ('21), Karen Nguyen ('21), Samantha Phung ('21), and Sophia Rodriguez ('21) - attended TechTogether Boston, an all female, femme and non-binary hackathon. The team competed in the category Best Social Good Hack and won. Their hack was a website they designed using HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and JQuery. 

 

Fall 2019

Angelina Quach ('20), Tasmia Rahman ('20), and Sarah Serneabad ('20) - Attended TechTogether (https://newyork.techtogether.io/) at Queens College in NYC. They won the Best High School Hack Developed Website

 

Vicky Zheng ('20)  - Presented with her team their Governor's School of Engineering Paper on Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting from Human-Powered Oscillatory Motion at MIT's Undergraduate Research Conference

Spring 2019

Julie Chen ('21), Emily Pang ('20), Samantha Phung ('21), Vicky Zheng ('20) - qualified for and participated in Girls Go CyberStart Cyber Security National Competition. Finished in the top 10 for the state of NJ.

For her individual success during the team competition, Vicky was awarded a $500 scholarship!

 

Samantha Scalese ('19) - Awarded the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship - $40,000 ($10,000 per year) and a guaranteed paid internship at Amazon upon completion of her freshman year. She was 1 of 100 winners selected from a pool of 25,000 applicants. She was choosen for "her accomplishments, hard work, and bright future in the field of computer science."
