Parents-Teacher Conferences 2023

 

Please use the link below to sign up for a social studies conference. You must sign up with individual teachers for each class. The dates/times are as follows:

 

Monday, February 6 & Wednesday, February 8 1-3PM

 

Tuesday, February 7 & Thursday, February 9 5:30-7:30PM

 

Conferences will be held in-person at Fernwood Avenue Middle School unless otherwise requested. Please include your student's name when signing up.

Syllabus: 

 

  • Students will examine American History from the post-Civil War period through the 1970's.  During the year students will investigate the following units:

 

  • Reconstruction 1865-1876
  • The Development of the Industrialized United States 1870-1920
  • The Emergence of Modern America 1890-1930
  • The Great Depression and World War II 1929-1950
  • Post War United States 1945-1970’s

 

 

  • An emphasis will be placed on reading, writing,  and critical thinking, particularly in relation to utilizing and incorporating primary source documents.

 

 

In School Materials:

 

  • District Issued Chromebook

 

  • Folders:
    • I will provide you with one folder in the beginning of the year; you must replace it if lost.
    • Keep all graded work in this folder at least until the end of each marking period.

  • Each student’s classroom behavior, preparedness, effort, and work ethic are very important to obtaining individual and group (class) success.  Please see back for additional grading effects.

Grading Policy:

 

  • Grades will be calculated on a points-based system:

 

  •  Assignments = 30%

# of Assignment points you have accumulated

            divided by

total # of possibleAssignment points

  • Tests, Quizzes, Projects = 70%

# of Test, Quiz, Project points you have accumulated

            divided by

total # of possible Test, Quiz, Project points

=Y

 

  • Final Marking Period Grade (Z) = X(0.3) + Y(0.7)

 

  • Final Year Grade = Average of 4 Marking Period Report Card Grades

 

  • Late assignments will be accepted for up to half credit before announced end of marking period dates.  Students who are absent must present due assignments upon return.  Extended absences will be provided with an equal number of days to complete missing items.

 

  • Missed Tests/Quizzes (due to absences & suspensions) may be taken for full credit up to two weeks after originally given or end of Marking Period (whichever is first).
