CONGRATULATIONS TO SLAYBAUGH PRIMARY 1st GRADE STUDENTS FOR AWESOME CONCERTS on DEC. 10th, and to DAVENPORT PRIMARY 1st GRADE STUDENTS FOR AMAZING CONCERTS ON DEC. 17th!!

Want some fun things to do at home with music ??

Here are a couple of ideas:

  • Check out EHT music concerts. Concerts from around the district will be featured on EHT-TV and more. Check the TV listings on the EHT District website at http://ehttv.com/ Times are listed through this weekend into the beginning of next week--check NOW so you don't miss out!!
  • Watch The Nutcracker ballet. Make some popcorn and watch it together as a family. The best one that isn't live is (in my opinion) on YouTube: The Nutcracker New York City Ballet, 1993 featuring Macaulay Culkin ("Kevin" from the Home Alone movie series) as the Prince. Unusually for a ballet, there is a narrator which helps with keeping track of the action.
  • Make and use your own instrument. Some classes saw a brief video segment about making an instrument from items commonly found around the house. Otherwise, there are ideas on YouTube and my favorite, DSO Kids, the kids section of the website sponsored by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. https://www.mydso.com/dso-kids/activities/make-your-own-instrument.

BENEFITS of MUSIC EDUCATION

       EVERYONE benefits from music!

CURRENT FOCUS: Performance and Expression

Our Holiday Concert music is the medium through which students are working on performance and expression; such concepts as proper posture, vowel placement, breathing and support, clear consonants are among those covered in this unit.

Students continue to explore form and dynamics through singing, movement and using many instruments such as glockenspiels, xylophones, drums, kokorikos, rattlestix and more! These instruments allow students to respond with louder or quieter sounds (dynamics) as appropriate AND to create performances.
