EHTHS CERAMICS I 

 

 

Course Objectives:

 

  • To introduce students to the art of pottery and 3-D sculpture
  • To introduce the hand building methods of pinch, coil, and slab
  • To help students develop good craftsmanship and skill in working with clay and glazes
  • To help students express their ideas in an effective, creative, and aesthetically pleasing manner

 

 

 

Students are responsible for:

 

  • Generating and maintaining a portfolio of sketches and ideas for projects
  • Maintaining a folder for handout materials
  • Completing an independent research project due by the end of marking period three. 
  • Checking for missed work or handouts after an absence
  • Working/talking quietly and not disturbing others. 
  • Using school appropriate language and behavior
  • Taking responsibility for cleaning their work area, tools, and equipment after every use

 

 

 

Grading:

 

Grades will be based on the following percentages:

 

 

 

Assessments (projects, studio, quizzes, tests) ......... 60%

Assignments (class work and presentations) ……..... 30%

Quarterly Exams …................................................... 10% 

 

 

 

Students will be given a sufficient amount of time to complete all assigned projects.  Artwork may be exhibited throughout the school year in the high school, and possibly in the art show at the end of the year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

EHTHS ADVANCED CERAMICS  

 

 

 

 

 

Course Objectives:

 

 

  • Help students build on their knowledge of the hand building methods of pinch, coil, and slabs. Introduce the potter's wheel and sculpture as new effective building methods.
  • To continue help students develop good craftsmanship and skill in working with clay and glazes
  • To introduce new decorating techniques, with the use of slip and engobes
  • To help students express their ideas in an effective, creative, and aesthetically pleasing manner
