Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to EFMS 6th grade Science. I am excited to work with you and your child. I know we will have a successful and productive year, and I look forward to being a part of the academic progress your child will make.

I graduated from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA in 2010.  I am so thrilled to be teaching in Louisiana, and more specifically East Feliciana Parish! I am passionate about science – if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

In science class, I expect the students to BE scientists – in my mind, science is not just another class, but will allow students to gain the critical thinking skills necessary for success in everyday life. We will observe and ask questions, keep records in our notebooks, think critically, perform experiments, and draw conclusions. The science curriculum integrates math, reading, and writing.

These are a few of the ways I would appreciate your support at home:

1) Ask your child what they learned in school.  Talking about the work they do in science class will not only emphasize to your child how important learning is but also allow them to review the material again.

2) Emphasize the importance of independence and hard work. One of our big goals in class this year is becoming independent scientists.  Middle school is much different from elementary school and I will expect students to stay on top of their own work and assignments.

3) Stay up to date on your child’s progress by checking their folder and asking to see their progress reports.

4) If you are able to, Please Visit the Classroom!

5) I have sent the grading system and rules and procedures home with your child. Please read and return that as soon as possible.

6) Please send in a 1 inch 3-ring binder by August 10th.  Students will use these binders to keep track of their notes and classwork.  If you can not provide a binder please let me know as soon as possible.

Please do not wait for conferences to discuss concerns. You may email me at or call the school office at 225-683-3321. I look forward to frequent communication as we work together to help your student succeed!
