¡Hola! My name is Mrs. Blanchet. I am very excited to be your child’s Spanish teacher at Leeds Avenue Elementary School. Students receive Spanish lessons once a week for 40 minutes. Students learn the target language in a fun way using the Total Physical Response (TPR) method. The vocabulary and grammar are learned through singing, acting, and playing games.
Students will also learn about the geography and cultures of the Hispanic world. We will start the same way the children learn their first language: listening first, then saying words and short phrases, gradually increasing the quality and quantity of the spoken language using music, movement, games, and various visual aids. This is the best time for your child to begin learning a foreign language. Research shows that children at this age are like “sponges” when it comes to language absorption. The earlier they start, the greater their success.
Please encourage your child to tell you the new words and songs they have learned in class. It will be a lot of fun.
